Lifeguard and American Red Cross Training Program

The Monroe County YMCA will now pay for you to become a certified lifeguard, when you commit to six months of lifeguard service! We’re searching for committed candidates with strong swimming skills and a desire to help us
create a safe and healthy community.
In this American Red Cross lifeguarding course entry-level lifeguard participants will gain the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.
1. Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.
2. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.

How does it work?
The YMCA will cover all your respective fees for the Lifeguard and American Red Cross training program during which you will learn the necessary skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. After completing the program you will gain real-life experience during your commitment of six months of lifeguard service with the Monroe County YMCA (minimum of 8 hours per week)*.
*Candidates must undergo and pass all normal employment checks as stated by the Monroe County YMCA. If a candidate does not pass all employment requirements, or does not/is unable to complete the six month service commitment to the YMCA, they will be required to reimburse the YMCA for the fees associated with the Lifeguard and American Red Cross Training Program.
